Services: Special Projects: SUDSSustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) Attenuation Pond - with wildlife appeal, Chamberhall Business Park, Bury Chamberhall Business Park is a 16 hectare (40 acre) site being developed by Bury MBC and partners. All surface water from the new build and 0.9 hectares of sealed road and footway is fed into an existing pond with a hydro braked outfall. The pond was originally an ornamental lake in the grounds of Chamber Hall, the family home of Robert Peel, Bury’s famous son, Prime Minister and founder of the Police Service. Other contractors had undertaken initial excavation works during the winter of 2008-9 removing 8000tonnes of silt. The resulting open water became choked with ‘Typha’ during the first growing season and it was apparent further works were necessary. In spring 2010 Bury MBC’s landscape architects, in recognition of our environmentally sensitive approach, invited Environmental Fieldwork Limited to submit proposals to rectify the problem. We devised a scheme to maximise wildlife habitat whilst ensuring the SUDS operated as planned. A further 6000tonnes of silt were removed, an island created and the historic footprint of the lake restored all the while keeping the lake in water. ![]() |
