Services: Special Projects: PBNTPennine Bridleway National Trail The Pennine Bridleway is a new National Trail that is currently being developed by Natural England and its partners, the local highway authority areas through which it runs. By the end of 2011 it will be substantially complete between Middleton Top near Wirksworth in Derbyshire and Street in Cumbria, a distance of 206 miles. A further extension to Byrness in Northumberland is planned in future. Environmental Fieldwork Limited has been involved in building sections of the route in the South Pennines which have been in place since 2002. Around this time we also signposted the Mary Townley Loop on behalf of Rochdale MBC and Natural England. In recognition of the experience we gained from this initial signposting scheme we were invited to signpost the route from Tintwistle in Derbyshire, through Tameside and Oldham to the Mary Townley Loop in Rochdale. With this scheme we had to survey the route, consult with landowners and highway authorities, specify and procure the signposts, install the signposts and present each highway authority with documentary evidence of work done.
Since this time we have rebuilt sections of the route in Oldham to meet the quality standards set by Natural England; undertaken further signposting north of the Mary Townley Loop to Wycoller in Lancashire; and have secured the routine maintenance of the route in Oldham. March - April 2011 Contract secured for further signposting from Wycoller, near Colne, to the Yorkshire Dales. |
