Bury MBC - Heritage Lottery Fund Phase 2 bid enabling works
Historic Landscape Restoration - Philips Park, Whitefield, Manchester.
Clearance and conversion to meadow of 1ha scruby woodland to reinstate views of Manchester from main drive into Philips Park. Old photos show rolling grazed pastures with landmark trees that have subsequently been colonised by dense scrub and rhododendrons.
Work took place between Jan - Jun 09 to fell all trees, grab out stumps, strip topsoil, cultivate and seed land, install 500m new fence line and introduce field drainage.
The works had to respect the heritage of the Victorian parkland along with constraints imposed by the fact the site is a grade 1 site of biological importance within a local nature reserve.
